Ramaphosa Visits Namibia
Cyril Ramaphosa, South Africa's newly elected president, just completed a three country visit to Angola, Bostwana, and Namibia.
This is the South African President's first official visit to Windhoek, Namibia, and he thanked President Geingob for his hospitality during the visit.
Because this is his first visit to the nation, Ramaphosa focused on emphasizing the commonalities between the two nations, including being "comrades in arms" and having a history of liberation movements against European colonization.
Since this visit was more about "renewing the friendship" between the two nations, and a symbolic visit, Ramaphosa plans to travel to Namibia again in the future in order to discuss "serious matters of... economy.. trade... [their] cultural connections... [and] political relations."
I found the focus on the liberation struggles and commonalities particularly interesting, given recent events in South Africa (the government's seizure of land from white farmers without any compensation).-EM

Was there any political reason for their first visit being so recent, rather than earlier in their respective presidencies? - Elizabeth
