I wrote last week about the African National Championships, and said I would provide an update this week! Namibia clinched a spot in the quarter final!!!! This is the furthest they've ever made it in the tournament. Namibia is making its debut at CHAN and have never been past the group stages at their two appearances at the Africa Cup of Nations.
They beat Uganda 1-0 with Panduleni Nekundi scoring the go ahead goal during stoppage time. Although Uganda dominated Namibia for much of the game, the great thing about soccer is that the better playing team doesn't always win because one play can change the whole game! Nekundi scored the winner when Uganda failed to clear a ball.
Tomorrow, Namibia plays Zambia to determine who will finish at the top of Group B. Both teams will advance out of group play into the quarter finals. I'm excited to continue following their success in the tournament because I love how sports can bring people together and how this is the best they've done-very exciting!

This is such interesting news to keep up with! I'd love to know more about the structure and funding behind Namibia's national team. - Cecilia A
